10 votes, 34 comments. For some context, I no longer live with my parents, and they currently rent a 3 bedroom apartment. My mom recently found a job… Its' unlikely that you are educated or able to really help her financially. The time to help your mum at this moment is over. Most people who really wanted to help would have legit gotten a better plan, gone to school, gotten a good job, and helped the family.Worry about your own family at this point. ... Let me ask you... is your mom in the US? I suspect the reason you are saying she can only work in a restaurant is due to a lack of skills? If that is the case, why not try to help her find a job as a janitor for an office environment.Parents/family of youth in care, youth currently or formally in care, CASAs, agency/state workers, GALs, etc. are also welcome to participate. ... AskWomenOver30 is an inclusive community where people can ask questions to and discuss topics with women over the age of 30. All are welcome. ... I can't keep living like this anymore. 8 Ways to Help Family Members in Financial Trouble

Learn how you can best help a family member who's experiencing financial problems. Here are ways to help without hurting yourself in the process. The most direct form of help is giving a gift in cash, outright. Decide how much you can afford to give without putting yourself in financial jeopardy. Then either give the maximum amount all at once (and let your loved one know that's the case) or give smaller gifts on a periodic basis until the situation is resolved. Make sure it's clearly understood that the money is a gift—that is, it doesn't need to be repaid. If you're considering giving a family member a substantial sum of money, you'll need to keep an eye on the annual gift tax exclusion set each year by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).Your family member may approach you and ask for a short-term loan. Talk frankly, put the terms of the loan on paper, and have both parties sign. This will help ensure that everyone is clear on the financial arrangement they're entering into.If you are going to lend more than $10,000 and/or you're going to charge an interest rate that is substantially different than the going rate for most borrowers, you may want to talk to a tax professional. There can be unique tax implications for low-interest loans among family members. When helping out a loved one in financial distress, there is a risk of getting sucked into a loop of loans and payments.Ask the lender to notify you in writing if your family member misses a payment or makes a late payment. Finding out about potential repayment problems sooner rather than later can help you take quick action and protect your own credit score.

Family advice: Help! My wife thinks her kids deserve “equal rights.” I’m not so sure.

Help! My Sister Shocked Everyone at Her Ex’s Funeral With One Final Act of Revenge. It’s Left the Whole Family Reeling. My son isn’t particularly interested in meeting his step-siblings, who showed no interest in either him or his sisters until the possibility of this trip came up. My wife says that if her children are not welcome at the wedding it is a sign that I am not interested in bonding our families. It is boorish beyond belief for grown adults to demand an invitation (and paid airfare!) to the wedding of someone they’ve never met under the guise of “bonding their families,” which is a fiction so paper-thin it would tear under the slightest pressure. You could try to institute a chore wheel, you could make more insistent demands, you could spend a lot of your free time badgering them into carrying their own weight, but any of these will require a considerable expenditure of time and energy on your part with a low chance of success. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying; by all means, if Dinah follows you around the house while you’re cleaning, start delegating tasks (“Since you’ve got time, would you help me clean the bathroom? If this were your situation what would you do?
